There are thousands of rose books. The one that I keep going back to is Samuel Reynolds Hole’s A Book About Roses.
“Of the thirty-one books dedicated solely to the Rose written in Britain during the C19th the most popular, undoubtedly, was ‘A Book about Roses’ by the clergyman Samuel Reynolds Hole. Written in 1869 it has since had a miraculous history of new editions, impressions and reprints.”

Then we have the Rose Annuals of the former National and Royal National Rose Society, each one a tresure trove of history and rose lore.
But more modern books by Jack Harkness, David Austin, Sean McCann, Thomas W Saunders (no I didn’t know him either until I aquired his 1905 book ‘Roses and their Cultivation’) are permanent resources that describe every aspect of roses and rose cultivation..
